Shotover Loop Trail

START IN HISTORIC ARROWTOWN 

Come meet us in our Dudley’s Cottage Shop in Arrowtown where we will fit you with awesome e-bikes to help you on your journey! You will start on the Countryside trail, cruising by the Historic Chinese Settlement and through Millbrooke Village onto the Wharehuanui Trail.

The Wharehuanui Trail will guide you up and down the foothills of Coronet peak. You’ll be able to stop to say hello to the sheep along the route as you head into Arthur’s Point.

Arthur’s Point is the perfect stop for a quick lunch or snack to refuel before continuing your ride!

SHOTOVER GORGE TRAIL 

From Arthur’s point you will cruise down to the beautiful Hugo Tunnel. The tunnel is lit by timed lights with buttons at either end and in the middle to light up the tunnel for 2 minutes at a time. Riders are recommended to dismount and walk through the tunnel.

The trail passed the tunnel is steeper and narrower than the rest of the trail. Take care around the sharp corners and you make your way to the beautiful Kimi-ākau Bridge, a 90 meter bridge connecting the Shotover Gorge Trail to Tuckers Beach Trail.

TUCKERS BEACH TRAIL

Tuckers Beach Trail is an easy 6.7km that will lead you back to the Countryside Trail.

With Coronet Peak looming in your rearview, the trail skirts around bluffs and drops passed the Tucker Beach Wildlife Management Reserve. You’ll soon catch gorgeous views of the Old Shotover Bridges with the Remarkables as a backdrop.

Cross the bridge and hook on to the Countryside Trail you take you back to Arrowtown.

COUNTRYSIDE TRAIL BACK TO ARROWTOWN

Once you have crossed over the Old Shotover Bridge, you’ll follow the light green arrows back to our shop. The trail will take you through beautiful green pastures and you head back once more toward Coronet Peak. Pass Rutherford Road or turn for a quick pitstop at Lakes Hayes!

Soon you’ll find yourself at the bottom of Sharp Rise, a switchback incline that leads you back to Millbrooke. But don’t worry! You can pass on Sharp Rise and instead head right into Ayrburn for a quick drink before cruising back to Arrowtown!
