Hugging three of New Zealand’s most iconic and picturesque rivers, the beauty and remoteness of this ride really sets it apart.
We can pick you up or you can make your own way out to Arrowtown. Arrowtown is 100 meters higher than Queenstown which helps give the trail a bit more of a downward flow feeling as you ride towards Queenstown. This ride includes a few good climbs but you’ll be rewarded for your efforts with some of the most majestic views in New Zealand.
This is a great ride for those that like a bit of exercise or want to blow off the holiday waste line!
Making your way along the Arrow River you will start the 5 Bridges ride. Once along Arrow Junction road make a right turn at the top onto Thompson Hill.
Thompson’s hill, the longest hill on this ride, will take you through farmland that was never accessible before the trails were built. Stop and admire the view across the Kawarau River up to the majestic Remarkables Mountain range.
Winding your way along the banks of the Kawarau River, you will be rewarded with picture postcard views around every bend as you climb then descend to the sparkling aquamarine Kawarau river bed. Make sure to take a picnic and refreshments as it’s the most remote part of the trail and offers many great spots for a break.
You’ll cross the Shotover Bridge which is an historic local landmark and another great spot for a stop. It provides exquisite photo opportunities – you’ll be spoilt for backdrops!
From here ride along the Shotover delta, making your way to Lake Wakatipu, a nice easy finish along the lake side and onto your accommodation. Once you’ve finished, we can pick up the bikes from your accommodation or meet you and return to Arrowtown.
